Moez Surani

Moez Surani has been wowing the critical voices in CanLit by speaking up through poetry against war.
Moez Surani's poetry and short fiction have been published internationally, including in Harper's Magazine, The Awl, The Walrus, Best American Experimental Writing 2016, Best Canadian Poetry (2013 & 2014) and the Globe and Mail. Among the awards his writing has won is the Antigonish Review's Poetry Prize and a Chalmers Arts Fellowship, which supported a five-month research stint to India and East Africa.  His first poetry collection, Reticent Bodies, was published in 2009. One critic assessed the book's impact: "Reticent Bodies is that rare book that has the power to be a lynchpin, a hinge in the history of Canadian poetry." Another critic focused on the book's voice: "he is capable of shifting effortlessly from a terse, monosyllabic style to enormously complex syntactic compositions resulting in a very expressive language." In 2012, Surani published a second collection, Floating Life, which was described as suffused with "stunning, simple images." His third book, عملية Operación Opération Operation 行动 Oперация, which is comprised of military operation names from UN-member states, will be published by BookThug in Fall, 2016. webpage: www.moezsurani.com
